Warning against Folly and Sinful obsessions

Sin can be described as “nothing else than a morally bad act (St. Thomas, De malo, 7:3), an act not in accord with reason informed by the Divine law.” God has given us free will, reason, and a sense of responsibility. We are to use these gifts to live by His law. Sinning is what we do when we use our gifts of reason and free will in deviation from God’s law.

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Galatians 5:19-25

9 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 2 1and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Psalms 24: 1-2

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.

1 Corinthians 10:26 For, "The earth is the Lord's and everything in it".
